Moong Dal Halwa

Soaking time:  3 hours  
Preparation Time: 10 mins
Cooking Time: 1 hour  20 minutes
Total Time: 4 hours 10 minutes   
Makes 4 cups

Ingredients:-
1.)1 & 1/2 cup yellow moong dal (split yellow gram)
2.)a few saffron (kesar) strands
3.)1 tbsp warm milk
4.)1/2 cup ghee
5.)1 cup warm milk
6.)1 1/4 cups sugar
7.)1/2 tsp cardamom (elaichi) powder

For The Garnish:-
1.)2 tbsp almonds (badam) slivers

Method:-
1.)Soak the yellow moong dal in enough water for 3 hours. Drain well and blend in a mixer to a coarse paste without using any water. Keep aside.

2.)Dissolve the saffron in 1 tablespoon of warm milk and keep aside.

3.)Heat the ghee in a deep non-stick kadhai, add the yellow moong dal paste and cook on a medium flame for 40 minutes, while stirring continuously let the water evaporate .

4.)Add the milk and 1 cup of warm water, mix well and cook on a medium flame for 10 to 15 minutes, while stirring continuously.

5.)Add the sugar, mix well and cook on a medium flame for 3 minutes, while stirring continuously.

6.)Add the saffron-milk mixture, cardamom powder, mix well and cook on a medium flame for 1 minute, while stirring continuously.

7.)Serve warm garnished with almond slivers and saffron stards.
